Civil Defence Emergency Management relies on you as a member of the community to help during emergencies.
The CDEM volunteers build, maintain and share their skills to help our communities withstand civil emergencies.
In return for donating their time, CDEM volunteers receive the satisfaction of being able to make a valuable contribution to the community in times of need. They also have an opportunity to gain self-confidence, as well as a range of skills that they can take into the workplace and other volunteer organisations.
Volunteers play an important part within our communities. The local authorities in the Waikato use volunteers from within their CDEM organisations, but the roles available in each community vary.
Other emergency response organisations, such as St John Ambulance, New Zealand Fire Service, Rural Fire Authority and New Zealand Red Cross, also rely on volunteers during emergencies.
